Ein ähnliches Fazit auf etwas anderem Weg erreicht Nicholas Carr, der darauf beharrt, dass die unterschiedlichen Trägermedien der bestehenden und der zukünftigen Welt zu großer Differenz in der Rezeption führen würden. Ein vernetzter Computer sei das Gegenteil eines Buches, schreibt er. “Er schirmt uns nicht von externen Einflüssen ab, sondern ist dazu gebaut, unser Aufmerksamkeit zu zerstreuen.” Carr sieht sich selber auf der Opferseite: “Meine eigene Lese- und Denkgewohnheiten haben sich dramatisch verändert, seit ich vor 15 Jahren zum ersten Mal ins Netz ging.”
